Mauritius - Le Telfair Golf & Spa
Resort *****
Located in the South of the island. Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort has
been lovingly developed on the site of one of Mauritius' best kept
and most jealously guarded secrets, the former sugar estate of Bel
Ombre. Developed on 15 hectares of the estate, Le Telfair nestles
breathtakingly between the dreamy turquoise waters of the Indian
Ocean and the lush green slopes of the new 18 hole championship golf
course at the foot of a mountain. The resort has charm all of its
own with the gentle waters of the Citronniers River running through
it. Unequalled in Mauritius, the nearby natural reserve of Bel Ombre
offers over 3500 acres of unspoilt nature where residents can
stroll, or venture on horse back, quad or mountain bike, and
discover the amazing local fauna and flora. The is just 45 minutes
from the airport (35km) and from the capital, Port Louis (40km).
Helicopter transfers are also available. The 158 rooms are
accommodated in 20 villas of 6 or 8 rooms, created with a Colonial
style and architecture, reminiscent of the last century. Ideally
located between sea and nature, between the golf course and the
lagoon, amidst the splendour of tropical gardens, each room offers
peace and tranquility in abundance.
The rooms: The bedroom furniture is inspired by the French
colonial period. All the rooms have dark timber floors and painted
timber wainscoting, ceilings and architraves. Floor to ceiling
French windows open wide onto the verandah. Most rooms face the sea,
while others enjoy a view of the river.
Room facilities: Each bedroom is fitted with a ceiling fan
and a spacious ensuite bathroom with a bath, walk-in shower and
separate toilet, hairdryer, minibus, tea and coffee making
facilities, electronic room safe and individually controlled
air-conditioning, electric shaver plugs as well as multi adaptors
and dressing facilities. The suites offer a DVD/CD Player and a
large selection of the latest films. Laptop computers and fax
machines are available upon request.
112 Superior rooms (54 m2) with balcony (12 m2), 16 Deluxe rooms (63
m2) with balcony (15 m2), 20 Junior suites (20 m2) with balcony (18
m2), 8 Senior suites (81 m2) with balcony (23 m2) and 2 Ocean suites
(96 m2) with balcony (23 m2)
Key differences between room types:
Deluxe room: a wide four poster bed creating a wonderfully romantic
ambience, enhanced by the light linen drapery flowing from the
ceiling
Junior suite: similar to the Deluxe room, with a hexagonal-shaped
lounge and a larger verandah. In the bathroom, the generously
proportioned old style bathtub is free standing.
Senior suite: romantic bedroom with spacious ensuite bathroom,
private dining room, lounge area, guest washroom and spacious
terrace.
Ocean suite: significantly larger than the senior suite, the
bathroom features an old style free standing bathtub plus a private
garden with external shower. Butler service is available 24 hours.
Main restaurant: Guests and members of the kitchen brigade enjoy a
uniquely convivial relationship, built around a superb 'show
kitchen' where guests can select from a range of cosmopolitan
specialities or create original dishes they wish to try while
discussing with the Executive Chef. This intriguing concept forms
part of the daily culinary delight. At the same time, a well-stocked
wine cellar provides the perfect excuse for a friendly discussion
between the sommelier and residents where each can exchange their
views on this endlessly fascination subject. This restaurant offers
breakfast, lunch and dinner. Designed on four levels, the restaurant
affords stunning views of the sea, the mountains and the river. The
terrace is perfect for a starlit dinner.
Seafood Restaurant: Open from lunch through to dinner and
built on a stretch of white powdery sand, the ambience is tranquil
and relaxed. Each day at noon, take time out to savour a variety of
panoramic views from the calm riverbanks of Citronniers River to the
deep blue ocean waves breaking against the coral reefs. In the
evening, the mood becomes more sophisticated. Fish and the freshest
seafood are served with an unusual Asian/Japanese influence, grilled
on the spot or cooked to your personal taste. An important part of
the pleasure of a well cooked meal is the opportunity to choose the
ingredients oneself. Guests are more than welcome to inspect the
catch at the jetty, brought in fresh each day by the fishermen,
choose the seafood and discuss exactly how they would like it
prepared.
Chateau de Bel Ombre: Built in the 19th century, amidst
elegant 100 year old French gardens, the Chateau de Bel Ombre
borders the golf course at the foot of a mountain, and is quite
simply the place where dreams and romance intertwine. Internal wood
structures are hung with a number of historical mementoes, while the
antique wood paneling and the large surrounding verandah create a
refined yet intimate ambience in which to savour cocktails, tea or
perhaps a typical Mauritian meal of game or heart of palm. Lunch is
reserved for light and informal Mauritian cuisine, and the dress
code is similarly informal and casual. However, the evenings usher
in a change of mood, where haute cuisine and elegant evening wear
set the tone.
Main Bar & Lounge: After dinner, guests can gather in
comfortable armchairs for a nightcap and the finest cigars, all to
the relaxing sound of a live bank performing on the stage
overlooking the river. An open-air dance-floor invites a more lively
close to the evening.
Mediterranean Restaurant: Located between the beach and the pool,
this restaurant offers light, Mediterranean cuisine, influenced by
the flavors of open wood fired cooking. Open throughout the day,
it's the ideal spot for those who want to enjoy the pleasures of the
without pause.
Beach service: A beach service is available for residents
wishing to make the most of the sand, sun and sea.
Room service: Available 24 hours a day.
Golf: The 18 hole championship golf course was designed by Matkovich
& Hayes from South Africa. Two rivers, Citronniers and St Martin,
run through the golf course which also features the Chateau de Bel
Ombre and its beautiful French gardens. Golfers walking the tracks
to the next hole, enjoy the magnificent view of both the lagoons and
the mountains.
The golf course adjoins the hotel. Residents have access to the
course by golf cart via a private pathway. Golf carts are brought to
the Port Cochere. Golf clubs are carefully polished and safely
stored in individual lockers, then placed on the carts the next day
ready for another day on the greens. Other than the traditional
clubhouse, golfers have access to other facilities, such a pro shop,
golf carts for hire and tuition from our resident Golf Pro.
Spa: Designed as a sanctuary, the Six Senses Spa at the Telfair is a
haven of peace where fountains and streams flow in the midst of
luxurious vegetation. The 700 m2 spa village includes 9 double sized
treatment rooms. Each room is independent and surrounded by a
private garden with open-air shower. Each unit equally equipped with
a bathroom. To preserve intimacy, 2 outdoor gazebos are furnished
with a pool and private relaxation area. Massage tables are
surrounded, at the same height, by rim-flow pools conducive to
relaxation. Saunas, steam rooms and cold water pools are available
in both ladies and gents areas. The spa offers an extensive range of
treatments. Both ancient and modern techniques are practiced by our
specialists, delivering complete well-being to body, mind and
spirit.
Kids Club: Younger guests are given every consideration at Le
Telfair because after all, if kids aren't happy, they have a way of
letting you know about it very quickly! Children don't have to just
make do at Le Telfair. There's a special Kids Club designed to offer
a memorable experience with world-class service. While the adults
relax and enjoy a romantic holiday, they can be secure in the
knowledge that their children are enjoying a varied programme of
activities under the caring and watchful eyes of our fully trained
