Canyon Atlantic
Tour 10 Days & 9 Nights
Day 1 Your tour guide will
meet you at the Hosea Kutako International Airport and drive you to
your hotel in Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia. You have time
to recover from the flight, stroll around the central business
district of Windhoek, indulge in souvenir hunting or just relax.
Bed and breakfast at the hotel are included.
Day 2
We drive in a
southerly direction and visit Namibia's biggest dam, the Hardap Dam,
and from there to Keetmanshoop where we visit the quiver tree
forest, and enjoy a packed lunch. We proceed further south to the
Canyon Lodge which is situated 20km from the main viewpoint of the
Fish River Canyon - the second largest Canyon in the world. Here we
spend the night with Dinner, Bed & Breakfast included.
Day 3
Making an early start
we visit the breathtaking Fish River Canyon, where you may spend the
morning strolling along the rim of the second-largest canyon in the
world before enjoying a packed lunch. Back at the lodge you might
undertake a scenic flight over the canyon or go on a drive around
the 70000Ha private game reserve [for your own account].
Dinner, Bed and Breakfast are included.
Day 4
We drive to
Lüderitzbucht via Aus and through the 'painted desert'.
Lüderitzbucht retains much of its original architecture and
character, making this a journey into the past. The modern Nest
Hotel with 73 sea-facing rooms and seafood restaurant makes a
pleasant contrast and this is where we spend the night.
Bed and Breakfast are included.
Day 5
The morning is spent
at the ghost town Kolmanskop which was a thriving diamond town in
its heyday, but which has since been reclaimed by the desert. We
return to Lüderitz for lunch at your own expense. During the
afternoon we undertake bay tours and a visit to the Diaz cross
before returning to the Nest Hotel.
Bed and Breakfast are included.
Day 6
We again traverse the
'painted desert' to the Dabis Guest Farm outside Helmeringhausen,
where your hosts Heidi and Jo Gaugler wait to welcome you. During a
farm sight-seeing drive Jo enlightens us on their lifestyle and
activities as one of the last big Karakul sheep-breeder families.
Bed and full board are included.
Day 7
Taking leave of the
Gauglers we drive to the Duwisib Castle which is situated in the
middle of the African thorn bush plains. This Castle was built by a
German Officer, Baron Hans Heinrich von Wolff in 1908. After he
rejoined his old regiment in Germany and was killed on the Western
front in 1916, his American wife never returned, and the castle was
eventually declared a National Monument. From here we drive to the
Namib Naukluft Lodge, enjoying a picnic along the way.
Dinner, bed and breakfast are included.
Day 8
We continue our
travels to the apricot-coloured dunes at Sossusvlei, said to be of
the highest in the world. The foothills of the dunes block the way
to the actual pan, which can therefore only be reached on foot or by
4x4 vehicle. On the return drive to the Namib Naukluft Lodge we
visit the Sesriem Canyon.
Bed and full board are included.
Day 9
Today we drive back
to Windhoek stopping to take in the panoramic views from the
Spreetshoogte pass along the way. Overnight and breakfast in
Windhoek with dinner for your own account.
Day 10
Time for some
shopping before driving to the International Airport for your flight
back home.
