Why Choose This Safari?
This short tour takes you from Nairobi to one of Kenya’s most famous reserves, the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The reserve covers about 1,510 square kilometres in Narok County and was established in 1961. It is the northernmost part of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem, and each year blue wildebeest migrate north from the Serengeti plains into the Mara, crossing the Mara River in search of fresh pasture. Herds usually arrive around July and most leave around October, so the migration is best timed for those months. The reserve offers game viewing across the year, and predator-rich savannahs make it a rewarding base for game drives. Two nights at a lodge or camp give you a morning and afternoon on the reserve, with the option of a full day out on Day 2.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Nairobi to Maasai Mara National Reserve
At 7:30 am you meet outside Tuskys Supermarket, opposite City Market, for your tour briefing. You then depart for the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The drive has two stops only, at a Great Rift Valley viewpoint and at Narok Town, and you arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon you take a game drive in the reserve until late in the evening, then return to the lodge or camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2 — Full Day in the Maasai Mara
You choose between morning and afternoon game drives in the reserve, or a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. The full-day option gives you more time in the reserve, so please ask our team about any difference in price. You return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3 — Maasai Mara to Nairobi
After breakfast you leave for an early morning game drive at 7:00 am, and then drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the evening. You are dropped off in central Nairobi.

Best Time to Go

The herds usually arrive around July and most leave around October, so July to October is the best window for the wildebeest migration and for river crossings. The reserve offers game viewing across the year, and the dry months from June to October are generally the most comfortable for game drives. The long rains from roughly April to May and the short rains in November and December can make tracks muddy. Timing changes from year to year with the rains, so our team can advise the best dates for your trip.

What happens after the safari ends in Nairobi?
You are dropped off in central Nairobi on Day 3 in the evening. Accommodation in Nairobi is not included, and any onward travel is not included in the rate.
