This mid-range safari takes you to two of Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife destinations: Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. The Serengeti is the symbol of the classic African safari, famous for its endless plains, rich wildlife and dramatic predator encounters. It covers about 14,763 km² and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. The Ngorongoro Crater, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, is the largest intact, unfilled volcanic caldera in the world, with a crater floor of about 260 km² and walls about 600 m high, and offers one of the best chances in Tanzania to see the Big Five in a single day. With two nights in a tented camp inside the Serengeti and expert local guides, this safari combines comfort with authentic wildlife experiences.

Destinations to Travel
Itinerary
Day 1 — Arusha to Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast in Arusha you set off with your professional guide towards Serengeti National Park, travelling through the highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and past the crater rim. You enjoy scenic views and game viewing along the way as you descend onto the vast Serengeti plains. In the afternoon you continue with a game drive until sunset, then head to your mid-range tented camp for dinner and the night.
Day 2 — Full Day in Serengeti National Park
You spend a full day exploring the Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives, with a picnic or camp lunch in between. This is your best chance to spot lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes and buffaloes, as well as the great herds of wildebeest and zebras, depending on the season. Your experienced guide knows where to look and when. Wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed. Dinner and overnight at your tented camp.
Day 3 — Ngorongoro Crater and Return to Arusha
After an early breakfast you leave the Serengeti and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day tour, one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife experiences. The crater floor is home to a dense population of wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, hippos and the rare black rhino. You enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater before climbing back up to the rim and driving to Arusha, arriving in the evening. It is a long but rewarding final day.

Best Time to Go
This safari can be taken all year round. In general, the drier months from about June to October are the most popular for game viewing, as animals gather around water. The great wildebeest migration moves through the Serengeti all year: the herds are usually in the south for calving from about December to March, and in the north from about July to October. The rainy seasons can make some roads muddy, but the landscapes are green and quieter. Our team can advise on the best dates for your safari.

Three days is a good option if you are short on time, but the Serengeti is far from Arusha, so Days 1 and 3 include long drives. If you can, adding a day lets you spend more time on game drives and less on the road. Please ask our team about our longer safaris.
