This three-day trip brings the Kenyan coast and two of its largest wildlife parks into one short safari. You leave your beach resort in Mombasa and travel inland to Tsavo East National Park, a park of about 13,747 square kilometres gazetted in 1948. It is crossed by the Galana River, which flows across its dry plains. The second night is spent in Tsavo West National Park, about 9,065 square kilometres, also gazetted in 1948. Its cliffs are where Mount Kilimanjaro is frequently visible on a clear day, and its landscapes range from mountains and river forest to plains, lakes and wooded grassland. You return to Mombasa by early afternoon on Day 3, having seen two of Kenya’s best-known parks in a short trip from the coast.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park
At 8:00 am you are collected from your beach resort in Mombasa and driven inland to Tsavo East National Park. You stop for a hot lunch at Voi Safari Lodge, then set out on an afternoon game drive in the park. You return for dinner and an overnight stay at Voi Safari Lodge.
Day 2 — Tsavo East to Tsavo West
You take an early morning game drive in Tsavo East, the ideal time to see a wide range of African wildlife and birds, including birds of prey. You return to the lodge for breakfast, then continue with a game drive through the park on the way to Ngulia Safari Lodge in Tsavo West National Park. The park offers varied habitats, from mountains and river forest to plains, lakes and wooded grassland. Water draws a wide variety of game to the rivers, and the park is home to animals year round. After lunch you take a game drive until sunset, then dinner and an overnight stay at Ngulia Safari Lodge.
Day 3 — Tsavo West to Mombasa
You wake at 6:00 am for an early morning game drive, then return to the lodge for breakfast at 8:00 am. You leave the park with a lunch box and drive back to Mombasa, arriving at about 1:30 pm.

Best Time to Go
No travel period was given for this safari, so the guidance below is based on general seasonality. The dry months from June to October and from about January to March are usually the best times for game viewing in Tsavo East and Tsavo West, because animals gather around water and the bush is thinner. The long rains from roughly April to May and the short rains in November and December can make tracks muddy and the views hazy. Clear days give the best chance of seeing Mount Kilimanjaro from Tsavo West, which is most often visible in the drier months. Our team can advise the best dates for your trip.

Where does this safari start and end, and how long does it last?

Can we see Mount Kilimanjaro from Tsavo West?
Yes, on a clear day. Kilimanjaro is frequently visible from the park’s cliffs, and your Day 2 game drives give you the chance to look. Visibility depends on the weather, so it can’t be guaranteed.
Is there beach time in this trip?
No. The safari is built around the two parks, and the beach appears only as the pickup and drop-off points in Mombasa. If you would like beach time before or after the safari, please ask our team to arrange it.
Which lodges will we stay in?
You stay at Voi Safari Lodge on the first night and Ngulia Safari Lodge on the second night. Our team will confirm both when you book.
Will we see big animals in Tsavo East?
The park is known for its wide range of African wildlife and birdlife, including birds of prey. The early morning game drive is the best time to look, and sightings can’t be guaranteed.
What happens after the safari ends in Mombasa?
You return to Mombasa at about 1:30 pm on Day 3, with a lunch box for the road. Accommodation in Mombasa is not included, and any onward travel is not included in the rate.
