Four days is a tight window for Rwanda, but it's enough to do the two things most people come for — a gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park and a golden monkey trek the next morning — without skipping Kigali's Genocide Memorial on the way in. Spending two full nights at Ingagi Parkview Lodge means you're not rushing straight from the airport to the forest, and there's room on Day 3 to add the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village if trekking alone isn't enough for one afternoon. It suits travelers who want Rwanda's signature wildlife experience alongside some of its history, not just the trek itself.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival in Kigali
You're welcomed on arrival at Kigali International Airport and given a safari briefing before meeting your dedicated driver-guide for the transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to settle in — Kigali itself is known for its lush hills, vibrant markets and artisan craft shops, worth a wander if your flight gets you in with time to spare.
Lunch, Dinner
Hotel des Mille Collines (Midrange)
Private airport transfer
Day 2 — Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, you visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial on a guided tour — a sobering, well-presented tribute to the more than one million victims of the 1994 genocide, and a meaningful way to understand Rwanda's history and recovery. Following lunch, you take the scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, settling into your lodge in the afternoon to rest up before the next day's trek.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Ingagi Parkview Lodge (Midrange)
Guided city tour in Kigali; road transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Day 3 — Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Village Visit
The day starts early with a briefing at park headquarters before you set off into the rainforest with expert rangers in search of mountain gorillas. Once you find them, you get a full hour to watch the group in their natural habitat — young gorillas tumbling around, silverbacks keeping a watchful distance, whatever the day brings. In the afternoon, you can either unwind back at the lodge or head to the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village for a closer look at Rwandan traditions and hospitality.
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Ingagi Parkview Lodge (Midrange)
Guided gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park; optional visit to Ibyiwacu Cultural Village
Day 4 — Golden Monkey Trekking and Departure
Your final morning is spent trekking for golden monkeys — a shorter, gentler walk than the gorilla trek the day before, but just as rewarding, watching these playful primates move through the forest canopy. You return to the lodge for lunch, then head back to Kigali, with time for a short city tour if your flight schedule allows, before your transfer to the airport.
Breakfast, Lunch
Guided golden monkey trek; road transfer to Kigali; private airport transfer

Best Time to Go
Rwanda can be visited year-round for gorilla trekking, since permits are issued daily regardless of season, but the dry months of June to September and December to February make for easier hiking through Volcanoes National Park's steep, often muddy terrain. The wetter months bring fewer crowds on the trails and a lush, green forest that photographs beautifully, if you don't mind the occasional downpour.
The time spent searching for the gorillas varies by group and can take anywhere from thirty minutes to several hours through the forest, but once you find them you're guaranteed a full hour observing them before heading back.
Is 4 days enough time for a Rwanda gorilla safari?
Yes — this itinerary is built to fit gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking and the Kigali Genocide Memorial into four days, with two full nights at Ingagi Parkview Lodge near Volcanoes National Park so you're not rushing between activities.
Is the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village visit included?
It's offered as an optional afternoon activity on Day 3, alongside simply resting at the lodge — worth confirming with our team whether the entrance fee is included in your rate.
Where do we stay during the trip?
One night at Hotel des Mille Collines in Kigali, followed by two nights at Ingagi Parkview Lodge near Volcanoes National Park, both midrange properties.
What's the difference between the gorilla trek and the golden monkey trek?
The gorilla trek on Day 3 is the more physically demanding of the two and requires a separate permit, while the golden monkey trek on Day 4 is shorter and gentler, making it a good lower-intensity close to the trip.
