5 Days: Wildebeest Migration “Fly-In” Safari (July to October)

After breakfast, you transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight into the heart of the Northern Serengeti, with sweeping aerial views over Tanzania's landscape along the way. On arrival, your driver-guide meets you for an exciting afternoon game drive, already on the hunt for the Wildebeest Migration and the Big Five in one of the most remote and rewarding corners of the park. If you're not ready to call it a day, you can extend the drive until sunset, or your lodge may offer optional activities like guided nature walks, village visits or night drives to round out the evening.
 

Your full day centers on the kopjes and the Mara River, chasing the chance to witness one of nature's most dramatic spectacles  wildebeest and zebra plunging into the current, braving Nile crocodiles in their push toward the Masai Mara. Even when a crossing isn't actively happening, the riverbanks and surrounding plains are rich with hippos, resident predators, and a wide variety of wildlife set against some of the Serengeti's most striking scenery.
 

After breakfast, you head south toward Central Serengeti's Seronera region, passing through the Togoro plains and the striking Mbuzi Mawe kopjes along the way. This stretch of the park is known for genuine variety, from delicate dik-diks to towering elephants, but Seronera's real reputation is as "big cat country"  expect strong odds at lion prides lounging in the open, cheetahs hunting across the savannah, and leopards draped lazily over acacia branches.
 

After breakfast, you make the journey from the Serengeti to Ngorongoro, with the drive itself delivering some genuinely excellent wildlife viewing massive herds of wildebeest and zebra, graceful giraffe, and predators including cheetah, hyena, and lion all turn up regularly along the route. You arrive in time to settle in near the crater rim, ready to explore what's often called the "Eighth Wonder of the World" the following morning.
 

You start early for a full day exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, beginning at a panoramic viewpoint over the caldera before descending to the crater floor itself. Home to more than 120 mammal species, the crater offers a genuinely rare concentrated shot at the endangered black rhino, alongside hippo, lion, leopard, jackal, and large herds of buffalo, wildebeest, and zebra  one of the most reliable single-day wildlife experiences in Africa. After a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, you head back to Arusha in the afternoon, bringing your five-day safari to a close.
