6 Days – Mukuru Camp – Lake Natron – Serengeti NP and Ngorongoro Crater

You're collected from the airport or from Arusha town and driven to Mukuru Eco Tented Camp, a journey of around one and a half to two hours. A warm welcome awaits on arrival, followed by a tour of the camp and a chance to settle into your room over a light refreshment. In the afternoon, you head out on a guided bush walk lasting two to three hours, learning about the local flora and fauna with your guide. After a short break, dinner is served, and the evening winds down around a campfire with storytelling and stargazing under the Rift Valley sky. For those keen to go further into Maasai tradition, a traditionally roasted Maasai Goat BBQ can be added at an extra cost, often paired well with an evening of Maasai storytelling.
 

The morning is yours to shape. Rise early at 6am if you'd like to catch the sunrise, then join breakfast at 8:30am. Afterward, your guide takes you to visit a family from the local Mukuru community in their boma, offering an authentic, off-the-beaten-path look at everyday Maasai life. Join the women in their daily tasks, sit and chat with an elder, or play with the children. Visits rotate between families so that no single household carries the weight of hosting every group. You break for lunch around 1pm, then have time to rest at the camp before heading out again around 3pm for a walk into the bush, where you'll learn traditional Maasai group games that test your reflexes and balance, more fun with a group. In the evening, for those interested, a Maasai dance performance can be arranged at an extra cost. Maasai dance is unusual among Tanzanian dance traditions in that dancers move vertically rather than side to side, and it's performed without drums, reserved for celebrations and rituals.
 

After an early breakfast, you're picked up from Mukuru Eco Tented Camp with a packed lunch and driven to Lake Natron. From there, a guided walk takes you along the lake's edge to explore its striking ecology and the breeding grounds of its pink flamingos, one of the most important flamingo breeding sites in East Africa. Along the way, your walk crosses a patch of forest where giraffes are commonly spotted browsing among the trees. As the day winds down, you're treated to one of Lake Natron's famously vivid sunsets before heading back to your camp for dinner and overnight.
 

After an early breakfast at your camp, you drive to Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's best-known wilderness and home to the open savannah plains that support one of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the continent. You'll be watching for the big five, lions, elephants, rhino, buffalo and leopard, with a break for a picnic lunch along the way. The game drive continues into the afternoon in search of zebra, hippo, giraffe, antelope and the many other species that call the Serengeti home, before you settle in for dinner and overnight at Serengeti Seronera Campsite.
 

An early start gets you out for a 6am game drive while the Serengeti is at its coolest and most active, before returning to camp by 8:45am. After checking out, you drive toward the Ngorongoro Crater Rim with a packed lunch and game viewing along the way. You have the option of routing via a Maasai boma or Olduvai Gorge, the renowned archaeological site tied to some of humanity's earliest fossil discoveries, if you'd like to add either stop to the day. You arrive at the crater rim for dinner and overnight.
 

After breakfast, you leave camp and descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor with a packed lunch for a final morning of game viewing. The crater is remarkably rich in wildlife for its size, with different species holding their own distinct territories across the floor, and your lunch is served at a picnic site near the Lerai forest or the hippo pool. In the late afternoon, you ascend out of the crater and drive back to Arusha, where your safari comes to an end. Accommodation in Arusha and your airport transfer are not included in this package but can be arranged on request, so let us know in advance if you'd like us to organize either.
