7 Days – Uganda Fishing Expedition Safari

7 Days – Uganda Fishing Expedition Safari

These fishing sites are not any other than the Africa's largest Lake Victoria, which is also the world’s second largest fresh water lake. You will extend your expedition to the famous Murchison Falls, in this trip you will experience nature and marine-life.

Day 1: Kampala – Entebbe - Lake Victoria:
In the morning pick up from the airport or your hotel in Kampala and transfer Entebbe. After lunch, proceed with fishing on Lake Victoria on a private boat. Dinner and overnight at:

  • Meals: Lunch | Dinner

Day 2-3 Boat fishing:
After breakfast, you will transfer to Entebbe Pier where you get your speed boat to start a full day sport fishing on amazing waters of Lake Victoria. You fishing trip will depart around 9.00 am and return 5.00pm, approximately 8 hours on the water.  Fishing is done around local islands about a 45 minutes’ boat trip from Entebbe.

The areas fished will depend upon the weather and how the fish are biting.  At certain times of the year the lake can be very rough with large swells and so then we tend to utilise the sheltered bays for fishing.  A picnic lunch is provided with a cool box of beers, mineral water and sodas as well as tea and coffee.  Anglers are free to bring along additional drinks required.

Lake Victoria offers the opportunity for hooking one of the world’s largest fresh water fish the Nile Perch, from approximately 8-80 kg in weight.  Trolling with lures is the main method of fishing used.

Speedboats used are of between 18 and 30 foot (6-10 metres), powered by twin  outboard engines are used. The boats have a large seating capacity but cater for a maximum of 4 people fishing at any one time (to avoid line tangling etc).  Fibre glass 24 foot long “canoes” powered by an outboard engine are also available for smaller groups of 2-3 fishermen and usually best for day trips (not overnight). All Boats are equipped with an overhead sun canopy, rain suits (there can be a certain amount of spray when the lake is rough), mobile phone, life jackets, basic first aid box and fire extinguisher on board for your safety.

All equipment and lures for trolling for perch for up to 4 lines per boat are supplied, but anglers are free to bring their own.  Anything damaged or lost will need to be paid for before disembarkation.  Lures are between 20-25USD each if lost.

Its recommended that you bring as much sun protection as possible – hats, sunglasses, creams as it can be quite hot out on the lake (average day time temperatures are in the mid to late 20 degrees C). Strops or sandals are a good idea as you may well get wet feet – especially getting on and off the boat!  Insect repellent is a good idea.  A camera if you’d like to capture “the big fish” on film. Light day wear such as T shirts and shorts are normally fine but we recommend a rain jacket in case of bad weather and a sweater or light jacket for cooler weather and the evenings.

After a successful day on water, you will return to the main land and your guide will be waiting to take you back to your overnight accommodation.  Dinner and overnight at:

  • Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 4: Lake Victoria - Murchison Falls N.P.
After breakfast, check out from club and drive by 4WD vehicle via Kampala thru Masindi for lunch after lunch proceed to Murchison falls National Park to arrive at the lodge/Hotel for dinner and overnight:

  • Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 5 and 6: Fishing on the Nile;
After an early breakfast, start your fishing excursion on the Nile River at 8.00am in search for the Large, strong Nile Perch living in the turbulent waters below the falls as well as other several other species. There are great opportunities to land a large Nile Perch "mputa" or Cat-fish "semutundu". Other fish include Tiger fish, Electric cat-fish, Tilapia, "Ngara" (Genus Alestes).

The record largest Nile Perch was 113 Kgs landed at the water gauge opposite the crocodile pool, and the largest cat-fish was 45 Kgs landed near the Nyamusika Cliffs. The fishing at Murchison varies from year to year as to which are the most successful fishing months, but generally it is accepted that the drier months of the year produce better fishing results – December to March and June to October. We catch all year round it’s just that in these months there is less chance of rain.

Sport Fishing at Murchison Falls National Park is generally conducted in the area at the base of the Water falls on the Nile.  The fishing is either from the rocks on the bank of the river or slightly lower downstream in the pools from a boat. The temperatures at Murchison are high (sometimes over 40 degrees C) – especially at mid-day and anglers should be equipped with sun protection including sun tan lotion, hats and long sleeved shirts.  Tsetse flies also abound at certain times and we recommend long trousers as well as insect repellent. This half day fishing normally starts at 8.00am and ends by 1.00pm after which you will return to your lodge for Lunch.

NOTE: fishing equipment is provided in the cost, but with USD100- deposit fee per rod paid before departure (this is refunded less any breakages / damaged equipment)-This is to be paid direct by the client and is not included in the cost.

At 3.30pm, transfer to the northern sector of the park for a short evening game drive to the rolling plains where you have chances of viewing Lions, Giraffe, Hartebeest, Buffalo and Elephant as well as many of the other mammals of the park. For the birders, these areas support the Secretary Bird, Black Chested Snake Eagle, Tawny and Marshal Eagles Carmine and Swallow Tailed Bee-Eaters, to pick just a few. This is a beautiful drive across Borassus Palm Forest and grassland savannah down to Lake Albert where the Albert Nile heads north to the Sudan. Later on return to your Lodge for dinner and overnight.
