Few freshwater fishing trips combine two very different waters in one journey. Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake by area and one of the world’s largest freshwater lakes. Its islands and sheltered bays are the setting for speedboat fishing, where anglers troll with lures for Nile perch that can weigh from about 8 to 80 kilograms. The trip then continues north to Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile is squeezed through a gap about 7 metres wide before it drops about 43 metres. Below the falls you fish from the riverbank or from boats for Nile perch, catfish and tigerfish, and the park’s game drives add a wildlife element to each day.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Kampala or Entebbe and Lake Victoria Fishing
You are picked up from Entebbe Airport or your Kampala hotel and transferred to Entebbe. After lunch you go fishing on Lake Victoria on a private boat. You have dinner and an overnight stay at a lodge in Entebbe.
Day 2 — Full-Day Speedboat Fishing on Lake Victoria
After breakfast you transfer to Entebbe Pier and board a speedboat. The trip departs at about 9:00 am and returns at about 5:00 pm, around eight hours on the water. Fishing takes place around local islands about 45 minutes from Entebbe, and the areas fished depend on the weather and how the fish are biting. When the lake is rough, the crew use sheltered bays. A picnic lunch is provided, along with a cool box of beer, mineral water and soft drinks, plus tea and coffee. You may bring extra drinks. You have dinner and an overnight stay at the Entebbe lodge.
Day 3 — Second Full Day of Speedboat Fishing on Lake Victoria
Your second day follows the same schedule as Day 2, with the speedboat leaving Entebbe Pier at about 9:00 am and returning at about 5:00 pm. Trolling with lures is the main method. The boats are 6 to 10 metres long and powered by twin outboard engines, with a maximum of four anglers fishing at any one time. Each boat has a sun canopy, rain suits, life jackets, a first aid box and a fire extinguisher. On return to the mainland, your guide takes you back to the Entebbe lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4 — Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park
After breakfast you check out and travel by 4WD vehicle through Kampala and Masindi, with lunch in Masindi. You continue to Murchison Falls National Park and arrive at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 5 — Nile Fishing Below the Falls and Evening Game Drive
After an early breakfast you start fishing on the Nile River at 8:00 am, below the falls, where Nile perch, catfish, tigerfish, electric catfish, tilapia and ngara live in the turbulent water. You may fish from the riverbank rocks or from a boat in the pools downstream. The half-day session ends at about 1:00 pm, and you return to your lodge for lunch.
At 3:30 pm you take a short evening game drive to the northern sector of the park, with its rolling plains and Borassus palm forest. Lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffaloes and elephants may be seen, along with birds such as the secretary bird, martial eagle and carmine bee-eater. You return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Note: Fishing equipment is included, but a deposit of USD 100 per rod is paid directly before departure and refunded less any breakages or damage.
Day 6 — Second Day of Nile Fishing
You spend a second day fishing on the Nile below the falls, following the same pattern as Day 5. You have dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 7 — Early Morning Fishing and Return to Kampala
You wake at 6:00 am for an early morning fishing session on the Nile. Breakfast is at 8:30 am, after which you check out and travel back to Kampala.

Best Time to Go
This trip can be taken all year round. In general, the drier months are easier for fishing and game viewing. Fishing at Murchison is generally better in the drier months from December to March and from June to October, though fishing takes place all year. On Lake Victoria, the lake can be rough with large swells at certain times of the year, so the crew may fish in sheltered bays instead. Temperatures at Murchison can rise above 40 degrees Celsius at midday, so sun protection is recommended. Our team can advise on the best dates for your trip.

Where does the trip start and end, and how long does it last?
The trip starts with a pickup at Entebbe Airport or your Kampala hotel and ends in Kampala on Day 7. It lasts seven days and six nights, with three nights near Entebbe on Lake Victoria and three nights in Murchison Falls National Park.
What fish can we catch?
On Lake Victoria, the main target is Nile perch, which can weigh from about 8 to 80 kilograms, caught by trolling with lures. On the Nile at Murchison, you may catch Nile perch, catfish, tigerfish, electric catfish, tilapia and ngara. Catches can’t be guaranteed.
Is fishing equipment included?
Yes, the fishing equipment is included, but a USD 100 deposit per rod is paid directly and refunded less any breakages. Lost lures cost USD 20 to 25 each.
