Wildebeest Migration Safari - Western Corridor 6-Day Tour (May to June)

Wildebeest Migration Safari - Western Corridor 6-Day Tour (May to June)

Short Overview

Join us on this breathtaking safari to witness the Great Migration’s journey through the Western Corridor of the Serengeti, including the dramatic Grumeti River crossings. Unlike the famous Mara River crossings in the north, these crossings have fewer crowds, offering a more intimate experience. The Grumeti River, home to Nile crocodiles and numerous predators, presents the first major obstacle for the migrating herds. Early mornings on the plains reveal an awe-inspiring display as predators and prey interact against the stunning Serengeti landscape.

Day 1: Arusha - Tarangire National Park

Depart from Arusha after breakfast for a scenic two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. En route, pass through Maasai villages and vast open plains that showcase Africa’s natural beauty.

Explore Tarangire’s iconic landscape with a game drive around the Tarangire River, which is a lifeline for wildlife during the dry season. Watch for large herds of elephants, zebras, and other animals gathering around the river, framed by majestic baobab and acacia trees. After a picnic lunch, continue your game drive, where you may encounter lions, leopards, buffalo, and various antelope species. With luck, you might even spot the rare Greater Kudu or Fringe-Eared Oryx.

Dinner and overnight at your selected accommodation.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park - Serengeti Central

After an early breakfast, journey to the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On this scenic drive, there’s a chance to see buffalo, baboons, elephants, and even leopards as you pass through lush rainforests.

Along the way, consider adding one or both of these optional experiences (additional cost):

  • Olduvai Gorge Museum: Known as the “Cradle of Mankind,” this site offers insights into early human history and spectacular views of the gorge.
  • Maasai Boma Visit: Experience Maasai culture through dance, village tours, and market shopping.

After lunch at a Serengeti picnic area, begin exploring the vast plains. As one of the world’s most iconic safari destinations, the Serengeti is home to diverse wildlife and sweeping landscapes.

Dinner and overnight in the heart of Serengeti National Park, with accommodations based on your preference.

Days 3 & 4: Serengeti Western Corridor

Start your days with early morning game drives as we venture into the Western Corridor. The Great Migration moves toward the Grumeti River in this region, seeking new grazing grounds near Lake Victoria. The Grumeti River, teeming with Nile crocodiles, presents a thrilling sight as wildebeest and zebras make their way across these predator-filled waters.

The predator-prey interactions here are intense, with big cats and crocodiles seizing the chance to hunt. Capture stunning wildlife moments in this less-crowded part of the Serengeti.

Dinner and overnight in the Western Corridor, with accommodation options to match your preferences.

Day 5: Western Corridor - Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Western Corridor, taking in the sights and sounds of the wildebeest migration one last time. After lunch, return to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, passing through the beautiful highlands where you might encounter giraffes, antelopes, elephants, and various predators along the way.

Overnight at a location on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater or in Karatu Town, depending on your chosen accommodation.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater - Arusha

After breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, often called the Eighth Wonder of the World. This vast caldera, with its breathtaking panoramic views, is one of Africa’s premier safari destinations, offering a habitat for the Big Five and over 120 other mammal species.

The crater provides excellent opportunities to see black rhinoceros, hippos, lions, leopards, and hyenas, along with large herds of wildebeest, zebras, and buffalo. After a memorable morning of game viewing, enjoy a picnic lunch near the hippo pool before heading back to Arusha.
