Wildebeest Migration Safari - Calving Season 4-Day Tour (December to March)
Short Overview
Witness the beginning of one of nature's most epic journeys as you experience the wildebeest calving season. This incredible time of year marks the start of the wildebeest migration, when millions of animals embark on their trek from the southern Serengeti towards the Maasai Mara.
On this four-day calving season safari, you’ll visit Lake Manyara National Park, travel to the Ndutu region in the southern Serengeti to see the calving grounds, and finish with a visit to the majestic Ngorongoro Conservation Area. If you’re lucky, you might even catch the first steps of the herds' northward journey.
Day 1: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, depart from Arusha for a scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park, with a stop at the vibrant market town of Mto wa Mbu along the way. Here, you’ll get a taste of local cultures and have an opportunity to explore a colorful market, ideal for picking up unique souvenirs.
Arriving at Lake Manyara National Park, you’ll experience a photographer’s paradise. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and the rare tree-climbing lions. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the diverse avian life, from flocks of pink flamingos to brightly colored rollers.
Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at your selected accommodation.
Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park – Serengeti National Park (Ndutu Region)
After an early breakfast, begin the journey to the Ndutu region, traveling through the lush rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, enjoy sightings of diverse wildlife, including elephants, baboons, and, with luck, even leopards.
On your way to Ndutu, you have the option to include two enriching experiences (additional cost):
- Olduvai Gorge Museum: Often called the "Cradle of Mankind," Olduvai Gorge is home to some of the earliest evidence of human habitation. Visit the museum to learn about human history and view the striking landscape.
- Maasai Boma Visit: Experience Maasai culture with a visit to a traditional boma. Enjoy a traditional dance performance, tour the village, and shop for handmade crafts.
Arrive in Ndutu for a picnic lunch before setting out on an afternoon game drive. Explore the vast savannah teeming with wildlife, including the countless wildebeest herds grazing the plains.
Dinner and overnight in the Ndutu region, with accommodations based on your preferences.
Day 3: Ndutu Region
Rise before dawn for a memorable sunrise game drive, capturing the beauty of predators like lions and cheetahs as they hunt in the early light. Afterward, return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by a picnic lunch.
The rest of the day will be spent exploring Ndutu. Traverse the landscapes around Lakes Ndutu and Masek, witnessing the spectacle of young wildebeests taking their first steps. This full day in the Ndutu region will provide unforgettable safari moments.
Overnight stay in Ndutu.
Day 4: Ndutu Region – Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Arusha
After breakfast, travel to the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a wildlife haven and one of the best spots to witness Africa’s Big Five. From lions to rhinos, the crater is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, making it a must-visit safari destination.
Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch near the hippo pool before concluding your safari. In the afternoon, return to Arusha for your final overnight stay, reflecting on your unforgettable journey through some of Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes.
